Programmes · and the gemach

From the first line of Python to the first invoice.

Four programmes, taught in the afternoon and evening so that nothing collides with the sedarim. Hebrew in class, with support in Russian and Ukrainian. Shabbat and the festivals are never teaching days.

What we teach

The four programmes

Artificial intelligence and data science

From no programming at all to building and training a model. The mathematics is taught as part of the course, not assumed.

  • Python from the beginning
  • The mathematics that is actually needed: linear algebra, statistics, probability
  • Machine learning: regression, classification, clustering
  • Deep learning: neural networks, CNN, RNN, Transformers
  • Working with the ChatGPT API, LangChain and vector databases
  • A final project built for a real need in the community

Web development and design

The full stack, ending in work that can be done as a freelancer from Safed as easily as from Tel Aviv.

  • HTML5, CSS3, responsive layout, principles of UI and UX
  • JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, React, Next.js
  • Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • WordPress: themes and plugins
  • Git, deployment, cloud services
  • Accessibility — treated as a duty, not a feature

Financial literacy and bookkeeping

The course a person needs before the first invoice, not after the first penalty.

  • Bookkeeping and financial reporting from first principles
  • The Israeli tax system: מס הכנסה, מע"מ, ביטוח לאומי
  • Opening a business in Israel: עוסק פטור and עוסק מורשה
  • Pension, study funds and long-term saving
  • Israeli accounting software in everyday use
  • Running a household budget

Start-up track

For someone who wants to build a business rather than take a job. Teams as well as individuals.

  • Testing the idea against a real market, before building anything
  • Building an MVP
  • Business plan and financial model
  • Marketing, and the legal side of trading in Israel
  • Pitching, and presenting to investors
  • Mentoring that continues after the demo day

Two further tracks run alongside these four: online marketing and promotion, and a track for wives of yeshiva students who want paid work that can be done from home. Ask us which of them is open in the current intake.

Can I do this?

Four sentences that stop people from writing — and the answers

“I have never written a line of code.”

Neither had most of the people sitting next to you. Python starts at the beginning, and the mathematics is taught inside the course rather than expected of you.

“I sit over a page of Gemara all day.”

That is exactly the preparation. Years of holding a structure in your head, following an argument to its consequence and finding the place where it breaks — a debugger asks for the same muscle.

“My Hebrew is not strong enough yet.”

Class is in Hebrew, and support runs alongside it in Russian and Ukrainian. Tell us which language you would rather be taught in when you write.

“Is this meant for someone like me?”

Yeshiva students, avreichim and rabbis in Northern Israel, and members of their households, from 18 years of age. Places in a group are limited — ask early.

How to apply

Three steps, and the first one is a single e-mail

  1. Write to us

Say which programme interests you, where you study or live, and the language you would rather be taught in.

  2. A short conversation

We tell you when the next intake starts, what the evenings look like and whether a place is open. You decide after that, not before.

  3. You start

Then it continues past the certificate: the CV, the technical interview, and an introduction to employers.

The second thing we do

Gemach — גמ"ח

A gemach — from גמילות חסדים, the doing of kindness — is a fund that lends money without interest and is repaid, so that the same money can help the next person. It is one of the oldest working institutions of Jewish communal life.

A loan is not a grant and it is not charity, and that distinction is the whole point of it. Whoever takes one is not a recipient of help; he is someone who will repay, and who keeps the standing of a person who repays. In a community where one broken washing machine or one delayed invoice can push a family over, that difference matters more than the amount.

The gemach is the practical companion to the courses. A new freelancer waits sixty days for the first payment while the rent falls due in thirty. That gap is where people give up on a new trade — and it is exactly the gap an interest-free loan is for.

To ask about a loan, or to lend money into the fund so that it can be lent onwards, write to us. Terms are agreed individually and in writing.

In plain terms
  • Interest is never charged. Not reduced — not charged.
  • The loan is repaid, and the same money is lent again.
  • The amount and the schedule are agreed in writing before anything is paid out.
  • It is a loan. It does not turn into a gift, and it is not reported as charity.
